Solstice
鈥淲inter Solstice鈥
By Du Fu (Tang Dynasty)
Time and human affairs push each other day by day,
As the winter solstice brings forth the sun, spring returns again.
Embroidered with five patterns and added fine lines,
As the reeds鈥 six pipes stir, flying ash moves.
The riverbank waits to release the willows for the upcoming Frost,
The mountains sense the cold and desire to bloom the plum.
Clouds and things are alike; yet, the homeland is different,
Teach the children to cover the cup in the palm.
